Richard Garet (US/UY) is a contemporary multimedia artist born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1972. He holds an MFA from Bard College, NY, and has lived and worked in the United States since 1996. Garet's practice is widely recognized in the fields of sound and visual arts, with his works exhibited in prominent galleries and institutions across the globe. At the core of Garet's artistic exploration lies an investigation of the ontological relationships between materials, perception, and media. His work engages deeply with the activation of background noise, the orchestration of imagery and sound, and the interconnection between outdated and contemporary technological apparatuses. By transforming discarded artifacts and media technologies into meaningful artistic expressions, Garet interrogates the concepts of obsolescence, materiality, and sensory awareness. His practice culminates in abstractions that challenge traditional artistic categorizations, resulting in multidimensional works that invite viewers to experience the unseen, unheard, and unnoticed. Garet's practice is distinctly interdisciplinary, blending elements of painting, sound art, video, and installation to create sensory constructs and transformative spaces. He often utilizes glitch aesthetics, electromagnetic frequencies, amplified interference, and algorithmically generated forms, bridging the gap between analog and digital realms. This hybrid approach positions his work with a unique take in contemporary art, where the sensory and the conceptual converge. Through his art, Garet demonstrates how technology can serve as a dynamic bridge between the past and the present, revealing insights into humanity's evolving relationship with the world. His works reflect a meticulous balance between conceptual rigor and sensory engagement, emphasizing the role of perception in understanding contemporary life as a filtered and layered experience. By reimagining noise and interference as creative forces, Garet elevates what is typically regarded as imperfection into a critical element of his aesthetic and philosophical inquiry. Richard Garet's body of work invites audiences to pause and reflect on the complexity of modern life, offering a lens through which they can explore time, space, and the often-overlooked details that shape human experience. His commitment to innovation and boundary-pushing experimentation continues to redefine the possibilities of multimedia art, solidifying his role as a pivotal figure in the intersection of sound, technology, and visual arts. Richard Garet's works have been included in prominent institutional collections such as MoMA in New York, the P\erez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), the Museum of Latin American Art (MOLAA) in Los Angeles, CIFO (Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation) in Florida, and the SPACE Collection (formerly Sayago & Pardon Collection) in Irvine, California.
